Albert Street

Albert Street is a charming and scenic street with a curved, wide layout. The northern end features cottages and houses, most with small front gardens filled with trees and greenery, adding a picturesque charm. The street connects with New Street via Cross Street and an unnamed lane. On the east side, it hosts a car park and Chapel Yard, a quaint gravel courtyard bordered by flint cottages, many converted into shops. At the junction with Bull Street is the entrance to Franklyns Yard, a modern development with shops and a restaurant.

Albert Street 960

Bull Street

Bull Street exudes quaint charm with its eclectic architectural styles, featuring flint cottages, redbrick structures, and variously sized rendered buildings. This mix creates a visually engaging and historically rich environment. Hoppers Yard, branching off Bull Street, offers a cosy retreat with an enclosed courtyard, repurposed shops, and a tearoom, enhanced by thoughtful landscaping. Lees Yard, another offshoot, blends houses and converted outbuildings for commercial and residential use. To the south Bull Alley offers a contrasting residential escape.

Bull Street 960

Cromer Road

Cromer Road is the main road heading northeast out of Holt, characterised by a suburban feel with detached houses set back from the street behind gardens. Branching off to the left is the narrow Peacock Lane, lined with Victorian cottages. At its intersection to the left with Grove Lane is the entrance to Gresham’s Prep School. Further northeast, Gresham’s Senior School spans both sides of the road. At the northern end of Cromer Road you'll find Holt Station, and. Old Cromer Road for Holt Medical Centre and Kelling Hospital.

Greshams Cromer Road

Hempstead Road

Hempstead Road is located on the southeastern edge of the town, separated from the town centre by the A148 bypass. This road serves both residential properties and industrial/commercial premises, housing several local businesses. Nearby, to the south of Hempstead Road, lies Holt Country Park, which adjoins the Holt Lowes Site of Special Scientific Interest.

High Street

The High Street is lined with shops and the King's Head public house, with the road widening at both ends leading to the Market Place and Obelisk Plain. Key focal points at the west end include the obelisk, fountain/lamppost, and the Methodist Church. The street has yards and alleys leading off it, containing both modern and historic houses and shops. Principal yards include Appleyard to the south, and Lion House Court to the north for shops. Jacob’s Place offers modern and historic residential buildings. Manor Mews is located to the south, and also other smaller yards.

High Street 960

Market Place

The Market Place is a wide, triangular space lined with shops on all sides, with most buildings dating from the eighteenth-century rebuilding of the town. The Old School House and the War Memorial at the eastern end are focal features. On the north side, the shops are set back from the roadside, with several lanes and alleys leading off to Fish Hill and Gun Hill. Yards off the south side of the street include Baker’s Yard and Feather’s Yard.

Market Place 960

Norwich Road

Norwich Road is a busy, wide main road with properties set back behind spacious pavements. It is partially tree-lined with grass verges and features a mix of modern and older properties. Holt Community Primary School is situated at the junction with Valley Lane. At the intersection with Kerridge Way, you'll find the Budgens supermarket. Heading towards Norwich, beyond the roundabout on the outskirts of Holt at Edgefield Hill, lies the entrance to Holt Country Park.

Shirehall Plain

Shirehall Plain features a distinctive triangular road layout centred around key buildings, including one the prominent Shirehall—a reconstructed 18th-century version of the medieval Corn Hall. The surrounding buildings house a variety of shops and cafés, adding vibrancy to the area. Franklyn’s Yard lies to the north, while Weston Square sits to the west, tucked behind Shirehall Plain.

Station Road

Station Road leads from Market Place to Holt bypass. Flint cottages and detached buildings line the west side, while the side of the Old School House and a substantial wall line the road to the east, which opens out to impressive views over the playing fields.

Station Road 1 960

White Lion Street

White Lion Street is a wide road connecting Cromer Road with the Market Place. Bull Street and the lanes and car park of Fish Hill leading off to the west. The former post office is also included in this area. At the south end is Church Street, a quiet, narrow side street leading to St Andrew’s Church and graveyard, with a picturesque view of the church at the eastern end. The side of the Old School House building dominates the south side of the road, with a few other buildings including the library and public toilets lining the north side of the road.
